Overview
Digital Media Connecticut (DMCT) is a statewide education initiative that supports student development in Creative Content Production. In partnership with the Connecticut Office of Film, Television, and Digital Media, DMCT develops educational programs that identify, nurture, and retain emerging talent that supports the needs of Connecticut's industry.
Although the University of Connecticut's Digital Media & Design Department heads up the DMCT initiative by spearheading funding and leading administrative efforts, DMCT runs in close collaboration with faculty from ten higher education institutions in Connecticut. Working together, these faculty support educational programming by serving on the DMCT advisory board and promoting opportunities for their students.
DMCT also enjoys a collection of strategic relationships, which CT industry employers like ITV America and industry associations such as the Connecticut Art Director's Club. You can learn more about these strategic relationships here.
Although DMCT takes a broad approach to creative content production, it has identified four branches of Digital Media used to focus educational efforts:
- Interactive Media
- Motion Design and Animation
- Film/Video Production
- Communications and Marketing
Members of the DMCT advisory board continue to review these branches as part of a continuing effort to update the document, Four Focused Branches of Digital Media: A Manifesto to Support Connecticut's Digital Media Industry.
Through its work, DMCT offers free online micro-credential training at www. pl.digitalmediact.com and a talent placement program for selected undergraduate and graduate students. DMCT also runs a biannual DMCT Summit that brings industry professionals together with students and faculty and produces digital media content like the Select+CT podcast.
