SUMMIT

The DMCT Annual Summit offers an industry-like conference event targeting university students. The goal is to provide education on what Connecticut’s industry needs for the next generation of digital media practitioners.

Started in 2018 in partnership with the University of Connecticut and the CT Office of Film, Television, and Digital Media, the DMCT annual summit has brought together leading industry professionals, students, and educators from across Connecticut, to facilitate dialogue on the latest practices and needs in digital media.

The DMCT summit provides an annual conference-like experience on what Connecticut’s industry needs for the next generation of digital media practitioners. Started in 2018, this one day event has brought together leading industry professionals, students, and educators from across Connecticut, to facilitate dialogue on the latest and greatest practices in digital media.

CONNECTNEXT

Want to know what life is like as an animator at one of Connecticut’s leading studios? What about the varying roles in motion graphics at ESPN, NBC Sports, or WWE? The ConnectNext speaker series takes place at universities across the state. Running September to December, these small intimate talks offer unique insights into the lives of digital media professionals working in Connecticut.

Global Game Jam at Quinnipiac University

January 29th - January 31st, 2021 | Hamden,  CT

The Global Game Jam® (GGJ) is the world's largest game jam event (game creation) taking place around the world at physical locations. Think of it as a hackathon focused on game development. It is the growth of an idea that in today’s heavily connected world, we could come together, be creative, share experiences and express ourselves in a multitude of ways using video games – it is very universal. The weekend stirs a global creative buzz in games, while at the same time exploring the process of development, be it programming, iterative design, narrative exploration or artistic expression. It is all condensed into a 48 hour development cycle. The GGJ encourages people with all kinds of backgrounds to participate and contribute to this global spread of game development and creativity.

Film Fest 52

Every Wednesday | Bethel, CT

Take a hip, exciting film festival -- and stretch it out over a year of Wednesdays. That's what people with FilmFest52! Every Wednesday brings another wonderful screening of every imaginable category of independent films. FilmFest52 is a new weekly film festival event created by the organizers of Connecticut Film Festival (CTFF) and The Bethel Film Festival (BFF) in partnership with The Bethel Cinema. CTFF has been screening films in Bethel for a decade and decided to launch this year-round concept comprised of all the elements typically offered in a week-long festival, including feature films and shorts, discussion groups, networking -- and partying! Periodic workshops, panels and keynotes on Saturday and Sunday mornings and off-site gatherings will also be announced.

Mandell JCC Hartford Jewish Film Festival

For the past 24 years The Mandell JCC Hartford Jewish Film Festival has explored the many facets of the Jewish experience. Through stories of Jewish history, spirituality, and culture, the power of film entertains, educates, challenges perspectives, and broadens the scope of Jewish life here and around the world. With over 5,000 thousand annual attendees and 4 venues around the community we celebrate Jewish, historical and cultural moments in film.

Greenwich International Film Festival

Greenwich International Film Festival (GIFF) is a non-profit organization that hosts a world class film festival each June, and supporting events throughout the year. It was founded to bridge the worlds of film, finance, and philanthropy. The Festival’s mission is to provide filmmakers with the opportunity to showcase their work with the goal of finding financing for future projects. Additionally, GIFF harnesses the power of film to serve the greater good by supporting charity partners with festival proceeds.

New Haven Humans Rights PSA Competition

An international film festival of international, documentaries, narrative features, short and student films and animations. Sub categories of green and environmental, sports, political, social, HS and College films, web series and PSAs.

Yale Environment 360 Video Contest

The annual Yale Environment 360 Video Contest  honors the year’s best environmental videos, with the aim of recognizing work that has not previously been widely seen. Submissions must focus on an environmental issue or theme and be a maximum of 20 minutes in length. Videos that are funded by an organization or company and are primarily about that organization or company are not eligible.

Trinity Film Festival

Trinity Film Festival features the innovative work of talented, undergraduate filmmakers from around the world and showcases those films every spring at Cinestudio Theater, a nationally-acclaimed 1930s-style movie palace on the campus of Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. Founded in 2012, Trinity Film Festival is a national platform for undergraduate filmmakers. We aim to provide a celebratory evening of cinematic dialogue that enables student filmmakers to premiere their short films on the big screen, engage other student filmmakers, meet industry professionals, and win cash prizes.

Connecticut LGBTQ Film Festival

Out Film CT’s mission is to entertain, educate and promote community through the exhibition of LGBTQ+ film. Out Film CT is a volunteer, nonprofit cultural organization dedicated to presenting outstanding LGBT cinema and other theatrical events throughout the year, culminating in the nine-day Connecticut LGBTQ Film Festival. This springtime event, Connecticut’s longest-running film festival, holds a special place in our state’s cultural landscape, bringing the community together to introduce, celebrate and rediscover the ideas and values that make the LGBTQ community unique.

Viva Cinema Latino Film Festival

An International Exchange of Latino Film, Music, Arts and Culture   

¡Viva Cinema! joins with the community and businesses of Waterbury to build cultural bridges and raise awareness of Latin American cinema and the art of visual story telling in the languages of Spanish and Portuguese.

NHdocs: New Haven Documentary Film Festival 

NHdocs was created to bring filmmakers and film lovers together, to build a community, an appreciative audience for documentary films and the people who make them. We are a place where filmmakers from the area and beyond can meet and see each other’s work. We screen films that have been shown at prominent International Film Festivals, as well as documentaries by local filmmakers whose efforts have not found the kind of recognition they deserve. We are resolutely democratic in our embrace of the documentary tradition on the local as well as the international level. We love film. And if you’re reading this, appreciate that you, as an audience member, do as well.

New Haven Jewish Film Festival of Western Connecticut

Sundays & Mondays of September | New Haven, CT

The festival, a program of the Jewish Federation of Western Connecticut, was launched in 2012 and programming has featured Israeli films, Holocaust films, documentaries, comedies and more. The Festival has hosted a diverse number of speakers including directors, producers, Holocaust survivors, legislators, and news-makers to provide the richest experience for film-goers. The Festival prides its success on its solid foundation of cultural commitment to the community. JFFWCT aims to create greater cultural understanding, promote tolerance and understanding, and encourage artistic development and excellence by strengthening communities through the arts, and by provoking thought through film.

Mystic Film Festival

Mystic Film Festival is an annual event that showcases independent feature-length and short-form narrative films and documentaries from around the world. The festival brings together a diverse group of filmmakers and audiences to explore ideas, discuss the filmmaking process, and celebrate creativity.  Through engaging community events, industry panels, and film screenings by acclaimed and up-and-coming talent, we aim to make the festival a special experience for filmmakers and audiences alike. Our festival was created by area filmmakers and artists to nurture local talent, to promote films made in Connecticut and other parts of the Northeast, and to bring unique cinematic works to Southern New England audiences.

Ridgefield Independent Film Festival

October 2020 | Ridgefield, CT

The Ridgefield Independent Film Festival (RIFF) celebrates independent films from around the world that enlighten, entertain, and inspire moviegoers through compelling visual storytelling. RIFF brings innovative films and filmmakers to the culturally vibrant community of Ridgefield, Connecticut for an annual four-day festival that includes screenings, panel discussions, special events, and nightly parties.
